Whether you’re navigating your home, running errands, or traveling, we have an electric wheelchair to support your independence and mobility.
Choosing the Right Electric Wheelchair
Selecting the right electric wheelchair involves considering several key factors. First, assess your primary use: will you use it mostly indoors, outdoors, or for travel? For indoor use, prioritize models with a tight turning radius and compact dimensions. For outdoor use, look for wheelchairs with robust suspension, larger wheels, and sufficient battery range for longer trips. Weight capacity is another critical consideration—ensure the wheelchair can safely support your body weight. Comfort features like adjustable seating, cushioning, and footrests are also important, especially for extended use. Finally, consider portability; if you travel frequently, a lightweight, foldable model may be ideal. Our team at Galenus Medical is here to help you evaluate these factors and find the perfect fit for your lifestyle.
FAA Compliance for Electric Wheelchairs
For those who travel by air, FAA compliance is a crucial consideration. Many electric wheelchairs in our selection are designed to meet FAA standards for air travel, particularly regarding battery safety. Most of our models feature lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly approved for air travel when they meet specific watt-hour (Wh) limits—typically 300 Wh or less for a single battery or 160 Wh for spares. These batteries are often removable, allowing you to detach them for carry-on storage while the wheelchair frame is checked as luggage. Always check with your airline for specific requirements, but our FAA-compliant electric wheelchairs are designed to make travel smoother and more accessible.
Battery Wattage and Wheelchair Charging
Battery wattage is a key factor in the performance of electric wheelchairs. Our models typically feature lithium-ion batteries ranging from 100 to 300 watt-hours (Wh), balancing power and portability. Higher wattage batteries often provide longer travel distances but may be heavier, while lower wattage options are lighter and better suited for travel. Charging is straightforward—most electric wheelchairs come with a standard charger that plugs into a regular household outlet. A full charge typically takes 6-8 hours, though some models offer fast-charging options. We recommend charging overnight and avoiding complete battery depletion to extend battery life. Dual-battery designs are also available in some models, offering extended range and flexibility.
Distance Range of Electric Wheelchairs
The distance range of electric wheelchairs varies depending on the model, battery capacity, terrain, and user weight. Our selection includes options with ranges from 10 to 20 miles on a single charge under optimal conditions. Lightweight models designed for travel often offer around 10-15 miles, ideal for short trips or daily use. Heavy-duty models, built for more demanding use, can achieve up to 20 miles or more, depending on factors like speed, weight load, and terrain. Flat, smooth surfaces maximize range, while hills or rough terrain may reduce it. We provide detailed range specifications for each model to help you choose one that matches your daily needs.
Standard vs. Heavy-Duty Electric Wheelchairs
Electric wheelchairs come in standard and heavy-duty varieties to suit different needs. Standard electric wheelchairs are typically lighter, with weight capacities up to 250-300 pounds, and are designed for everyday use in homes, offices, or light outdoor environments. They often feature a compact frame and a tighter turning radius for maneuverability. Heavy-duty electric wheelchairs, by contrast, are built with reinforced frames and more powerful motors, supporting weights up to 400 pounds or more. These models offer enhanced durability, stronger suspension, and often a longer range, making them ideal for users needing extra support or those navigating varied terrains like gravel or grass. Both types are available in our lineup to ensure all users find a reliable option.
Wheelchair Sizes: Standard Width, Seat Height, and Footrests
Electric wheelchairs come in various sizes to accommodate different body types and environments. Standard seat widths typically range from 16 to 20 inches, with 18 inches being the most common for average adult users. Seat heights vary, generally between 18 and 22 inches from the floor without footrests. With adjustable footrests attached, the overall height and leg positioning can be customized for comfort, typically adding a few inches to the setup. For users concerned with small doorways, such as those measuring 28 inches wide, we offer compact models with total widths as narrow as 23-25 inches, ensuring easy navigation through tight spaces. Always measure your doorways and key areas to confirm fit, and our team can assist with precise specifications.
Folding Wheelchairs for Transport
For those needing portability, folding electric wheelchairs are an excellent option. These models are designed to collapse quickly and easily, often in seconds, making them ideal for transport in cars, SUVs, or even airplanes. Lightweight folding wheelchairs in our collection can weigh as little as 37.5 to 50 pounds, fitting compactly into most vehicle trunks. Some feature removable batteries and foldable frames for even easier storage. Whether you’re traveling locally or long-distance, these folding electric wheelchairs offer convenience without sacrificing functionality, allowing you to maintain mobility on the go.
Manual vs. Automated Reclining Wheelchairs
Electric wheelchairs may offer reclining features, available in manual or automated designs. Manual reclining wheelchairs require the user or a caregiver to adjust the backrest by hand, typically using a lever or mechanism. This option is simpler and often more affordable but may require assistance for operation. Automated reclining wheelchairs, on the other hand, use powered controls to adjust the backrest and sometimes the leg rests, offering greater independence and ease. These models are ideal for users who need frequent repositioning for comfort or medical reasons, such as pressure relief. Both types are available, allowing you to choose based on your needs and budget.

Hi All!I reviewed this purchase a month or so ago, and in that review I stated that I would write an additional review after I had actually ridden the chair outside…well it was warm in the northeast yesterday so I took it for a spin. It handled great! It has a lot of speed, it maneuvered wonderfully. It will handle a gravel, but it can also get stuck…it can handle small curb type obstacles, it is very comfortable riding it…you feel safe and supported, I could try the grass because it was muddy and wet. I did also discover that it will handle gravel and small curbs easier if you drive over them in reverse because the back wheels are larger, and all the power from the motors are in the rear wheels.I love it…it’s a Great Chair for the price.Happy Driving 😄Here’s an Update on my review…I drove the chair on my grass the other day…it handled the grass ok…not great but ok. Turning on the grass can be difficult because the smaller front wheels drag a bit…but I find going in reverse and turning make it easier. I still feel that it’s a Great Chair for the price point. Here is another update to the Update:I have been watching YouTube videos on practicing with your electric wheelchair. The videos say to get proficient and confident with your chair you need to practice with it.I have been doing that…here is what I have learned about this chair…it is wonderfully responsive…it does handle pretty well on grass, start out slowly and increase gradually, also because of the bigger rear wheels you can back on the grass and then turn around, stay clear of inclines if you can slight is fine. Do not remove the anti-tip wheel tubes at all they really stop you from tipping backwards. The chair can handle gravel but the anti-tip wheels drag on large gravel. The chair wheels slip on wet grass, so if the grass is wet stay off!The chair is powerful enough so that you can back over a small curb as long as the anti-tip wheels don’t drag.Practice…learn your chair… remember all Brands of these style chairs have limitations learn the limitations of yours. This is a wonderful chair as I have stated before, I love it, I’m learning what it can and can’t do…you do the same, and Happy ChairingAlso…I have 2 additional commentsWhen you go to sit in the chair, to prevent it from rolling backwards turn the power on first and set the speed to 1…the electric braking will prevent it from rolling back as your sitting.2. To put the unit in free wheel mode so you can be pushed just turn the power off.

This wheelchair fits our needs perfectly. Lite weight yet sturdy. Easy to fold and handle. While we are still in practice mode, we are confident that we have made the right choice. What impressed me even more was the customer service. Having a question,I reached out to customer service before checking their time zone. The company returned my call as soon as they opened and I had not left a message!!!

Just what I wanted. The User Guide states it is for smooth paved surfaces. I have a Golden Companion ($2,000) mobility scooter, which is perfect for “off road” travel. This $700 electric wheelchair is not the same thing, and I am more comfortable with it on paved surfaces. I am disabled and will be getting rid of my car this year. With the power lift on the back of the SUV, I could take the Golden Companion with me. I will no longer soon be able to do that, so I began looking for an alternative. This SFL30 turned out to be spot on after my significant research. Weight was the #1 factor for my search, as I will be relying on assisted transportation. At about 30 pounds and folded up like a large suit case, it works for me. At 215 , 6 feet, the 19″ seat and full size chair is also a plus. My use will be pretty much limited to, going to, use at, and coming from medical, dental and veterinary facilities (I have a 9 year old service dog that I have worked with to walk with me and the wheelchair. For my needs, this chair to be spot on and I would buy it again, as the price is a bargain in my opinion. My only wish is that it had a manual brake. The Wheel Chair moves when I stand up, which I find scary at times. It has an electronic braking system, and I have not extensively tried that and am not really sure how much I will trust it yet. The Wheel chair does come to a stop when I take my hand off the control stick, but it still moves when I stand, as it can be pushed with the power off. I bought a manual brake to attach to each side and think that ought satisfy me. I bought another 5.2 AH battery and will keep it charged and with the chair. If I lose power at some point, this chair will operated with one battery, which ought get me home. Personally, I think I made a good choice.I have been using this for over a month now and will post my current opinion:I still think this is just what I was looking for. I have the Golden Power Scooter for off paved areas. It is heavy and does not turn in tight circles. The Zurcheel is light enough and folds into large suitcase size for me to carry to transportation vehicle. I will not rely upon it for off the paced surfaces. I find it very good for in-door and on paved surfaces. I use it 2-3 hours in-doors and the power charge drops from 4 lights to 1 light. I then recharge it for a few hours, back to 4 lights. This is working for me just fine. I did buy another battery to have for if I got out with an extended range in mind. The batteries seem to give multple hours of travel and I will not be more than 10 miles from home with this, or any power scooter for that matter. I am glad I got the 19″ wide power wheel chair, as I am sure the 17″ models would be too tight to be comfortable. The charger and extra battery fit nicely in the bag that comes with the chair, so it is easy to take with me if I travel with this chair, which I might this Summer. The only negative I still have is that the manual hand brakes that the image shows were not on my unit. Sure, a minor bummer, but none the less a bummer. Turn the power off and the chair is easy to push. With power on, it is tough to push and is not stationary. Overall, I found this an excellent in-door electric wheel chair for use in tight spaces.

Can hardly push because the electric breaks causes the wheels to drag

This was a purchase for my mother, who is completely wheelchair bound. It is perfect in size for her and breaks easily to fit into our crossover. Initially she was extremely nervous to use the chair, as she was afraid it may get away from her and injure someone like one of her previous electric chair. With it’s simple design, she is able to easily navigate her assisted living community with piece of mind. The seller’s customer service is amazing! We’d highly recommend this chair!
