UPDATE: It barely lasted 3 years. The arm rests extend beyond the metal bar frame. And quickly disintegrate with the weight of someone getting in and out of the chair multiple times a day. We tried gorilla tape and arm cushions to lengthen the time. But the arms themselves just finally gave out. The wheel brakes also stopped holding; no adjustment possible. So replaced with another model found on Amazon that seems to have better arms and brakes. We bought this Rubicon Model 1 as a supplement to our Jazzy Passport. We have had the Jazzy for over a year and put around 500 miles on it. It is a workhorse and never failed. The Rubicon is nearly half the price and 38 lbs vs the Jazzy Passport 68 lbs. That lighter weight for easier handling is what you are buying with the Rubicon. Not durability under heavy use. The Rubicon folds up as tight and easily as the Jazzy. With one caveat. The Jazzy, when folded, is on its 4 sets of anti-tipover wheels and stands straight up. This one rests on the tip over wheels and the main wheels and tilts at a 30 degree angle. But the main wheels are locked / engaged and so it cannot roll unless you tip it further down onto only the tip-over wheels. But by then. it is 2 ft too low to the ground for my 6′ frame. So I have to fold it exactly where I plan to lift it.We thought the handles on the Rubicon would come in handy. Especially if something went wrong like the battery discharging. But the back wheels remain locked to the motors at all times. With no way to disengage like with the Jazzy. So there is no possibility to use it as a push chair. With that said, even though the wheels are engaged, the motors will still spin when the wheels are tensioned. That is to say, you have to make extra sure to have the wheelchair like “hand brakes” on each wheel. Else it moves backwards too easily as you try and get out of the chair. The jazzy wheels are fixed / locked by the motors or electronic brakes. With no chance of moving (and they do not have any kind of manual wheel locks).Rubicon mentions automatic braking. There is no such thing. When you release the joystick and it recenters, the chair continues to roll for another few feet. No braking at all. Again, unlike the Jazzy which definitely brakes and you stop on a dime. They mention pneumatic wheels. Which implies air filled. This is a requirement with the Jazzy for us because we use it on daily walks of 2-5 miles outside on sidewalks and such. You need that extra cushioning when outside. These wheels are solid plastic — period. No pneumatic about it. And likely not to last anywhere near as long. The Rubicon is well built and finished; as you might expect from an American manufacturer putting higher standards on the Chinese manufacturer. But to get that lightweight, it is very minimal and about the same (or worse) than a fold-up, portable transport chair. When you go over an uneven surface (even a carpet to floor transition) it twists and turns a bit like a roller coaster. Well, not that bad. But not as solid as the Jazzy. The manual is for some different version or model then what they send. The battery is hardwired to the chair and not removable. Ours came missing the single bolt holding the battery to the chair — the battery was dangling from the chair by the wire when we took it out of the box. The charger is super-lightweight and larger than a typical “brick” charger for a laptop or similar (2x larger than our Jazzy charger). Oddly, it has a PC style 2″ fan in it which is very noisy. There is not a single mark or label on the charger so you have no clue what the amperage or voltage is. No ability to replace it with an equivalent if it ever goes out. Given everything I read here and elsewhere, I do not expect any sort of customer service, warranty service or the like is really available. Still waiting to hear about the missing bolt. (I found a bolt and nut in the garage that is working for now.)It essentially comes fully assembled. You just have to pop on the two anti-tipover wheels that have button locks. And slide the joystick controller onto the arm bracket. And you are ready to go. The battery is not removable, as mentioned, and so you have to charge it while still connected in the chair. There are three speed settings versus the Jazzy five. And, most annoying, the Rubicon engages the horn anytime you have the joystick in “backup” position. Making the chair make an annoying sound all the while you may be backing up. Think of like a garbage truck or construction machinery with audible backup warnings. If we have to destroy the speaker so there is no sound from the horn; we would not mind. Definitely get a cushion (we have a lumber support cushion on the Jazzy as well). As all they are providing is a web material seat and back.Overall, you are getting what you are paying for and likely expect. A lightweight, light build, electric chair. We use the Jazzy daily for outdoor walks; as mentioned. And amusement parks and such if that is ever in the cards. The Rubicon will stay in the car to be used for short distance and duration outings such as the grocery store, some restaurants with longer walks, the mall (if we ever go again) and such. Occasional use on very flat surfaces.

This thing is just what I hoped it would be. It’s easy to use, reasonably fast, but not too fast. not too heavy for an old guy like me to handle, and folds up with one hand! It’s sturdy, well-finished and the seat, while not plush, is reasonably comfortable. For what you get, I believe the price is right. It is a good deal, in my opinion.

It is a good chair for folding and going much lighter than mothers olders electric chair. Sadly we were not able to return this one as we moved passed the return time or we would have. These are the problems I have with it. She still uses her old chair around the house. Because this one does not turn easily. It gets hung up on itself and she has to use her feet to get it turned. Also if it is not shut off and she stands up. The chair will start going forward on its own! idk why it does this sometimes. It is a tricky thing. Overall it is a good chair for traveling we have taken it to casino and it has been fine for getting around and staying charged. For someone that needs a chair for stuff like that it is fine. We may have one that just has some quirks; I am not sure. Make sure to stay in the 30 days amazon window. We were moving and did not pay attention.
