Whether you’re seeking a compact model for daily use or a more robust option for extended travel, we have a variety of mobility scooters to meet your unique needs.

Choosing the Right Mobility Scooter

Choosing the right mobility scooter is a critical decision that depends on several factors. First, consider your intended use—will you primarily use it indoors, outdoors, or both? For indoor use, look for models with a tight turning radius and compact dimensions to navigate hallways and doorways easily. For outdoor use, prioritize scooters with larger wheels, better suspension, and a longer distance range for uneven terrain or longer trips. Weight capacity is another key consideration; ensure the scooter can support your weight comfortably. Additionally, think about portability—do you need a model that folds or disassembles for transport? Comfort features like adjustable seats, armrests, and tillers also play a role in ensuring a personalized fit. Our team at Galenus Medical is here to guide you through these considerations to find the perfect mobility scooter for your lifestyle.

FAA Compliance for Travel

FAA compliance is a vital aspect for those planning to travel with their mobility scooters. Many of our mobility scooters feature FAA-compliant lithium-ion batteries, typically limited to 300 watt-hours (Wh) for the primary battery, with the option to carry one spare battery not exceeding 300 Wh or two spare batteries not exceeding 160 Wh each. This compliance ensures you can safely board flights with your mobility scooter, making travel more accessible. When selecting a model, check the battery specifications to confirm it meets airline requirements, and always consult with your airline in advance to ensure a smooth travel experience.

Battery Wattage, Sizes, and Charging

Battery specifications are a key factor in the performance of mobility scooters. Our models come with varying battery wattages and sizes to suit different needs. Standard battery options often include 12 amp-hour (Ah) or 15 amp-hour batteries, providing a solid range for daily use. For extended travel, some scooters offer higher-capacity options, such as 249.6 Wh lithium-ion batteries, often configured as a single battery or, in some models, dual batteries for increased power and range. Charging is straightforward—most mobility scooters come with a charger that plugs into a standard household outlet, typically requiring 6-8 hours for a full charge. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for charging to maintain battery health and ensure optimal performance.

Distance Range of Mobility Scooters

The distance range of mobility scooters varies by model and battery size. Standard models, such as those with a 12 Ah battery, may offer a per-charge range of up to 7.25 miles, ideal for short trips or daily errands. For longer journeys, some of our scooters, especially those with larger or dual batteries (e.g., 249.6 Wh x 2), can travel up to 22 miles on a single charge. Range depends on factors like user weight, terrain, speed, and weather conditions, so consider your typical travel distance when selecting a model to ensure it meets your needs.

Standard vs. Heavy-Duty Mobility Scooters

Standard and heavy-duty mobility scooters cater to different user requirements. Standard mobility scooters are lighter, more compact, and designed for general use, with weight capacities typically ranging from 250 to 300 pounds. They’re ideal for users who need a versatile, easy-to-maneuver option for daily activities. Heavy-duty mobility scooters, by contrast, are built for greater durability, offering higher weight capacities (often 350 to 500 pounds) and stronger frames to handle rougher terrain or heavier loads. These models may have larger motors, enhanced suspension, and bigger wheels for stability, making them perfect for outdoor enthusiasts or those needing extra support.

Mobility Scooter Sizes and Small Doorways

Mobility scooter sizes vary to accommodate different environments and user preferences. Standard width sizes for mobility scooters typically range from 20 to 25 inches, making them suitable for most home and public spaces. However, for individuals concerned about navigating small doorways, such as those measuring 28 inches wide, we recommend selecting a compact model with a width of 22 inches or less. Seat height is another consideration, with most models offering adjustable seats, typically ranging from 17 to 22 inches, to ensure comfort and proper ground clearance. Adjustable features allow you to customize the fit for optimal ergonomics and ease of use, especially in tight spaces.

Folding Mobility Scooters for Transport

For those who value portability, folding mobility scooters are an excellent choice for transport. These lightweight models, often weighing as little as 42 pounds, can be folded or disassembled quickly, making them ideal for travel, whether by car, plane, or other means. Folding mobility scooters are designed to fit in trunks or storage compartments, offering convenience without sacrificing functionality. Many of our FAA-compliant models are also foldable, combining portability with travel-ready features for ultimate flexibility.

This was such a game changer for my Mom. She was so sad after having a stroke that affected her mobility. Not having the ability to engage in physical activity, like grocery shopping or taking a stroll in the neighborhood, really took a toll on her. I convinced her to try this little mobility scooter. It arrived 2 days later and we finally saw some joy in Mom’s eyes. She practiced scooting around in the house first, all the while smiling and giggling. She was so impressed with how easy it was to maneuver. She loved the horn and the headlights too! The same day the scooter arrived, my mother went scooting into a doctor’s appointment. Several people remarked that they’d like to have one too. This scooter absolutely changed my mother’s outlook on life. Good price point, quick delivery, easy assembly, long lasting battery charge, and it fit in the back of a small SUV without affecting the amount of seating, Get this for a loved one! You’ll be happy you did!

I was skeptical about the ability to climb a grade since my driveway is 7% grade and I’m 190 pounds. Amazingly, it makes it up the slope !!! I’m sure that someone much lighter could make it up a 9% grade as claimed. Extremely easy to put together out of the box. I didn’t need the instructions. Comes apart in 5 sections and fits in my Honda Civic trunk. The “horn” is an absolute joke, it’s actually a tiny electronic beep. Aside from that, it’s well engineered and put together. Perfect for walking my dog while I have a broken foot.

Purchased this for my mother in law because she is unable to walk very far. Great features and easy to put together. You can control how fast it goes. The seat turns to the side so your able to get out. People are always asking where she got it. She is able to back it out from her room. Love the color , seat is very comfortable and easy to break down , if you need to travel. When she is not using , she always keeps it plugged up.

Arrived quickly, looks ok, however when I power it up, it beeps very loudly and does not function. I called customer service and they said that the brake lever is defective, and they would send me a replacement lever and that I would have to replace it myself, or they would pay up to $175 to have it replaced. The closest repair place I can find it over an hour away. They did send these videos so that I could attempt to replace it myself. So instead of being able to use this device I have to wait a few more days for the part, then figure out if I will risk tearing down the drive system to replace it or take it to the shop. If there is one thing I hate it is wasting my time. Here are the ‘instructional’ videos they sent to help my do it myself. I will leave it up to you to decide how useful these are, in case you end up in the same situation. Like this is it, really the video they sent from their customer service.Update: ok they sent the part quickly (2 days), and recommended Mobility City for repair, and they saved the day. They had it repaired on the same day, and now it works as it should. I don’t know that it could be used on anything rough, but works great on paved surfaces with me (220lbs) on it, and the actual user is only 120lbs, so I think it will work well for what we need.

  5. Maxine Brod

We bought this scooter as a gift for my brother. who lives in NYC, while we live in Florida. He has been gradually losing mobility for the past several years to the point where now, at not quite age 65, he can’t safely navigate out onto the street with his rollater walker in his be neighborhood. He was excited about the prospect of new mobility, so when the scooter came with a brake defect—it was so disappointing!!! (Hence the four stars on my original rating.) However, my sister-in-law contacted the company and supplied a video of the problem. Vive arranged for them to return the original scooter and then shipped a new one fairly quickly. The new one arrived yesterday. They charged it up overnight and my brother is thrilled!!! They’ve been exploring all morning. He finally has his independence back! For his privacy, I blocked out his face in the photo, but if you could see it, his expression is so happy!!! Makes a big sister feel wonderful!! The scooter is easy-to-use, maneuverable, compact, sturdy, and pretty fast, too!Update: ZERO STARS!!! The second day my brother took out the replacement scooter, all excited and happy, it suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason!!! The battery was fully charged, the weather was clear, the pavement was level, but my brother and SIL were STRANDED two blocks from their apartment! My 60-something SIL had to PUSH my brother on the scooter all the way back to their building!!! We don’t want another replacement — just a refund. Galenus Medical has assured me that they’ll refund the price if Vive doesn’t, and I’ve already ordered the Pride Go-Go S-74 as a substitute for my brother. (I bought my other brother this model 4 years ago and it’s still going strong.)
